hey guys...we made it through the big birthday weekend! The pancakes and pajamas party was so much fun. I hope everybody had a great time- i know we did. Kaplan has had so much fun playing with all his new toys (and we have to!) And on to another week.....

monday- pictures. tuesday- MOPS meeting. wednesday- work. thursday- Kaplan's field trip to the fire station, Trick or Treat, then work at 11. Friday- Halloween, see Roosevelt Noise at Martin's and get ready for flea market. Saturday- Monticello Flea Market. Sunday- keep nursery at church.

so, i haven't written anything new in a while. wondering why? one word:
overwhelmed
my current status is running around like a chicken with my head cut off. busier than a one armed paper hanger. insert trite cliche here.
i'm exhausted. when you think texting is an acceptable substitute for a phone conversation, you are too busy to be good for anything.
at the end of this week i will be going on a trip to Texas for a MOPS convention. how would you like to be in a van with high-strung me for 8 hours? bless those baptist women.
life will not be this busy forever. just until i figure out how to put a few more hours into the day.

i'm watching the Today show winding down from work when they start showing all those little old people that turn 100 years old on the Smuckers birthday thing. They show this sweet little old black lady who is 107 years old in SC and says her favorite TV show is Walker, Texas Ranger and she is in love with Chuck Norris. how cute is that?
when i'm old, mine will probably say, well preserved by the chemicals in diet coke; wrinkles courtesy of many years of tanning beds; stays plump due to 2 pack a day diet of oreos. loves to cheat at cards and color in coloring books. refuses to wear shoes. attributes her long life to her excellent driving record. (ha!) and her sharp mind to all the hair color absorbed into her brain.

a little overwhelmed

after a wonderful weekend (except for the killer migraine and medicine hangover) it's time to get back to business. i sat down to have my quiet time this morning, but i've lost my Life Journal. I have a 3 page to-do list, so far. my plate is so full, but what do i cut out? there is no easy answer and no magic pill, i'm afraid. i just need to sleep less and do more.
jeremy's birthday is saturday. I had planned for us to spend the weekend in Starkville, but a)there are no rooms available and b) we don't know what Hurricane Ike has in store.
SO, if anybody has some suggestions for a simple, inexpensive, wonderful present, please let me know!

first let me say, Thank you Lord! the pathology report came back clear, which means NO CANCER! yay! He removed 2 of her drains, 2 more to go. She's feeling much better, but still not ready to put her SuperJackie cape back on yet.
I'm back at work tonite. It's still baby season, what can I say.
Life is good, and getting back to normal.

busy with the hurricane preparations! of course, we have no idea at this point where it's going to go, but i say better to be safe than sorry. the laundry's done, the house is clean; I have oreos, pop tarts and diet cokes. now it's time to venture out in the yard and remove my "yard art"- specifically my bottle tree and all my MSU paraphernalia- that could become hurling missiles if the wind kicked up just right. good thing all my flowers have already died! one less thing to worry about.

yay! mom got to come home today. she will be staying at my house for a while, definitely until this hurricane thing passes. She is feeling better and is almost back to her old self. We do not have the pathology reports back yet, but we feel confident that her cancer is all gone.
After all, she is in the care of the best doctor there could ever be- Jehovah Rapha, the Lord, Our Healer.

i read this out loud to mama when she emerged briefly from a morphine haze and she laughed and said "i hope not!"
i love kids, especially that one. abbie you are so precious. i see so much of your mama in you- and i know she sees so much of ME in you, and it's just enough to make her crazy.

surgery

today is mom's mastectomy/reconstruction. the surgery is about 2pm, so they won't be finished until 8 or 9pm. i'll update as soon as i can. pray for wisdom, steady hands and healing! We have faith that God has a great plan at work here somewhere.

oh people. way too much has gone on for this to be a downtime weekend. but it was educational. i will share the lessons so you won't have to learn them on your own:
1. a very smart 3 year old will argue with you that it IS possible that the 3 little pigs were present at the birth of Jesus. And, truly, it doesn't say anywhere that they were not there.

2. something that you have worried yourself about every day for 5 years has probably not bothered the other person at all, but you will feel so much better if you just say what you have to say and clear the air. especially if you have prayed for an opportunity to apologize to this person and then you just "happen" to end up sitting beside them in a huge church on sunday morning. coincidence? i think not. With God, there isn't coincidence. it was just time to make it right.

3. it is VERY important that you read the directions on a pregnancy test box before you start screaming and basically announce to your husband and mother that you are with child, only to realize that it should have a +, not just a -. sorry again, guys.

4. little boys can puke and ask for something to eat almost simultaneously. i think this is weird. he had just thrown up twice, but wanted to know where his doughnuts were when i got home from work.

5. my dog has a weird fetish for toilet paper. he chewed through a BRAND NEW PACK of angel soft and tore up 2 rolls. does anybody else's dog do this?

6. my husband (who is very white, by the way) has somehow channeled my Papoo and made the BEST Lebanese food Saturday night.
in all the craziness, i marvel at how God has answered my pleas to take away the overwhelming stress i have felt over the last few weeks. Thank you, Lord. Thank you for my little boy who innocently thanks You for lights that turn on and off and for chairs to sit in. Thank you for my husband who brings my little boy to have a picnic with me on Friday night at work so I can spend time with them and have a homecooked meal. Thank you for my mama who will use this whole Breast Cancer Extravaganza as a witness to someone who needs it, i just know it. Thank you for my sweet friend Christa, who always listens and makes me feel better, and ALWAYS takes my side even when it is possible I am wrong. (and tells me, NO, OF COURSE YOU ARE NOT BOSSY). Thank you for my Tracie who always calls at just the right time. Thank you for all my mamas who I have always had to take care of me. Thank you that I am blessed with the best in-laws in the world, who truly treat me as their daughter. And especially, thank you Lord, that Friday night at work You let me see a miracle. Amen.

the weekend ahead

we need some downtime. BADLY. we have been so crazy with this house thing, the work thing etc. that we need some Adcox Family Time. except somehow in a moment of craziness i signed up to work tonite, so the Adcox boys will be hanging out together, eating a pizza probably and watching a movie. Saturday will be low key, then church on Sunday and hanging out Sunday afternoon, getting ready for THE BIG SURGERY WEEK ahead. (wednesday, 9am, river oaks)

have i mentioned just how busy we have been at work lately? i mean, we are busy every summer but this is ridiculous. what were all ya'll doing last Christmas, people?! and i just realized the other night that people who were in high school with me are having grandchildren. i'll let that one sink in a minute. (let's do the math. they were 15 or 16 when they had a baby, now their daughter is 15...). SCARY and SAD.

trying something new

a new season of life has begun.
i thought this would be a good way to keep everyone updated on the ins and outs of our days.
let me know your thoughts.

So, a little about this week. My sweet baby boy is off to preschool. With a backpack and a folder that is obviously SO important that the teacher reminded me THREE times not to forget it. The backpack is orange, of course, with dinosaurs, of course. my mom has a little breast cancer and she's getting some new boobs next week. i definitely don't want cancer but i'm a little jealous of the boob job. i'll update more on that when i know more. Still trying to sell the house, but that will come in time. If there is one thing I have learned in my life, it is that God's timing is ALWAYS perfect, even if we can't see it from where we stand.
